meet dr. dunson
Dr. Bernee Dunson was born in Albany, Georgia, and is a third generation graduate of Morehouse College. After completing his undergraduate studies with a degree in biology in 1987, he entered the dental program at the University of Southern California (USC), where he received a Doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS) in 1991. He then attended Columbia University’s general dentistry residency program at Harlem Hospital in New York. He further continued his education, completing a three year an oral implantology residency program at Loma Linda University (LLU) in California. Dr. Dunson also has an IV and oral conscious sedation certificate from Miami Valley Medical College in Dayton, Ohio.
Dr. Dunson has been an educator in implant dentistry for over 25 years, giving lectures locally and around the world. He is the founder and director of the Global Dental Implant Institute which runs the Washington, DC (Mid-Atlantic) MaxiCourse and other adjunct programs. Due to Dr. Dunson’s extensive training and expertise, dentists have traveled from all over the United States to learn surgical techniques from him. Dr. Dunson is a sought after lecturer in the field of Restorative and Surgical Implant Dentistry and has been on faculties for various continuing education and dental programs around the world - as far reaching as India, Dubai & Japan.
In 2019-2020, Dr. Dunson served as President of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID). He has the distinguished honor of being the 2022 Gershkoff-Goldberg Award recipient. This is the highest honor given by the AAID, which recognizes exceptional contributions to the field of implant dentistry, exemplary service to the AAID and international recognition as an outstanding implant dentist. In 2021, Dr. Dunson was recognized by the AAID for his accomplishments, leadership, innovation, and contributions to excellent patient care with the Terry Reynolds Trailblazer Award. He is an Honored Fellow in the AAID and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry. Dr. Dunson remains actively interested in the latest developments in his discipline. He is the CEO of two dental practices in the metro Atlanta area - Dunson Dental Design in Midtown Atlanta and Smile Source Atlanta East in Stone Mountain, GA.
